What is a hustler? July 27, 2017 – Posted in: hustle
So what exactly is a “hustler”?
Dictionary.com defines a hustler as the following:
Urban Dictionary defines a little differently:
“Someone who knows how to get money from others. selling drugs, rolling dice, pimpin’.”
Other dictionary websites focus on the darker connotation to hustling, the meaning related to swindling or being a shyster. These types of people are usually known for promising you some level of value that you pay them for, and then the service or product you receive turns out to be cheap and not worth it. These people are more scam artists, con artists, or just plain thieves.
But here at Hstlr Wear, our brand is dedicated to the true hustlers. This hustler comes from the same word we use in sports. Hustle after a loose ball, hustle to the huddle, or hustle back to the line of scrimmage even after you make an embarrassing mistake.
This hustling is the same hustling that we use to describe someone who works a job that requires getting up at 4 a.m., or one in which you have to clean up scraps of food that other people have not eaten. Maybe you’re a hustler because you’re an entrepreneur, and instead of buying a new BMW you drive a 2005 Toyota Camry so that you can afford to run Facebook Ads for your business.
Maybe you’re a hustler because you’re a single mom and you decided to launch an online business that you can run while staying at home with your kids. Maybe you’re a new dad and you got an extra part-time job at a warehouse to be able to put your kid in a good school.
I had a friend in high school who was always flush with cash. One day I found out, he was a whiz at finding cars that were selling for a low price. He would buy the undervalued car, fix a couple of cosmetic problems, then he would sell it for a few thousand dollars more. Once he made his profit, he would buy some new air maxes and then use the rest of the profits to buy the next undervalued car. He was quite the hustler.
Some people wake up an extra two hours before their co-workers to hit the gym. No matter your goals for the gym, it’s not easy to stay in the habit of going somewhere every day when no one is making you. If going to the gym is not something you think about doing, rather something you just do, you’re a hustler.
No matter your motivation for your hustle, grind and killer work ethic, Hstlr Wear is here for you. We salute you and your hard work, and we’re honored to help you celebrate your victories.
